Yoga for healthy bowels
Yoga is known to be beneficial for bowel conditions like gas, constipation, indigestion, etc.
How does yoga help in resolving the bowel condition. It does so by the following two mechanisms:
- Yoga is known to help manage stress; once stress is under control, digestion improves.
- The various poses in yoga massage the digestive organs thereby increase blood flow and oxygen delivery, improve the process of peristalsis (forward rhythmic motion of the intestine that helps move food in the intestine) and encourage stools to move in the large intestine. Yoga done regularly results in regular, healthy bowel movements.
