Tomatoes boost male fertility
Nutrients in tomatoes like the lycopene could raise the sperm count by up to 70%.
A study in the UK was launched to investigate if raising the blood lycopene, the red pigment compound found in tomatoes improves sperm quality.
It is estimated that 1 in 6 couples are unable to conceive and in about 50% of cases the problem is caused by poor sperm quality.
Allan Pacey, professor of Andrology at the University of Sheffield, said, ‘The study will tell us if lycopene improves quality of sperm already in development by reucing DNA damage, and whether it produces an overall increase in the number of mature sperm produced overall.’
If sperm count have been found to be low, tomato consumption may help!
