Strength training helps lose weight

Strength training* (ST) is known to help lose weight. If somebody is just walking to lose weight and is not noticing any change, he or she should include strength training in the workout regime atleast twice a week.

Seek help from your gym trainer while doing strength training.

*Strength training is a type of physical exercise specializing in the use of resistance to induce muscular contraction which builds the strength, anaerobic endurance and size of skeletal muscles.

Examples of ST exercises include:

  1. Those exercises that can be done at home: Pushups, lunges, squats, dips, back extensions, abdominal crunches, yoga, heavy gardening
  2. At a gym: dumbbells, total-body machine workout
  3. At home/gym: resistance bands, strips or tubes of latex that stretch like large rubber bands to offer resistance
