Standing to work is good for health & productivity
If your job is such that you are constantly on the move, you are already standing to work. But if you are one of those who is confined to working in front of a computer, you need to stand to work if you want to have not only good health but improved productivity.
Research suggests that sitting for long periods is linked with health problems, including obesity and metabolic syndrome (increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist and abnormal cholesterol levels).
A study has found that Standing Desks may boost productivity in employees, as well as improve health. Standing Desks are desks that a person can raise or lower to stand or sit while working.
Researchers at Texas A&M Health Science Centre School of Public Health examined two groups of call centre employees over the course of six months and found that those who worked on Standing Desks workstations were about 46% more productive than those who were seated while working. Productivity was measured by how many successful calls workers completed per hour at work.
Standing for too long is also not good as it can create fatigue and even varicose veins after years of prolonged standing.
