Reasons for early menopause
Early menopause is on the rise, no doubt. 40 is taken as an arbitrary age for early menopause. Normal menopause happens around the age of 50.
It is called premature ovarian failure if menopause occurs around 30 years of age – these women generally have a genetic history.
The reasons for early menopause include:
- Smoking
- Unmanageable stress
- Being too skinny
- Excessive alcohol
- Autoimmune diseases – rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, etc.
- Seizures
- Surgical removal of ovaries
- Chemotherapy
It seems lifestyle changes are contributing to early menopause!
