Papaya leaf juice in Dengue Fever
Papaya leaf juice has been found to be useful in Dengue Fever to increase the Platelets Count. Dengue fever is almost always accompanied by a falling Platelets Count and in many instances the cause of fatal or non-fatal complications.
There is reasonable evidence and experience now that timely administration of papaya leaf juice can increase the Platelet Count. However, the treating doctor’s decision is final if you should require a Platelet Transfusion or try papaya leaf juice.
The Platelets Count [PC] are usually in the range of 150,000 to 450,000 per microlitre of blood. If the PC show a falling trend and keep falling below 100,000 it may perhaps be an appropriate time to try the papaya leaf juice. This is because Platelet Transfusion [PT] is not done at this level. Usually PT is indicated if the PC falls to around 40,000 and the clinical condition.
