Lady finger (okra) in diabetes
For diabetic individuals, studies suggest okra may reduce blood sugar due to its myricetin content. Myricetin is a flavonoid also found in blueberries, turnips and chia seeds, among other foods.
The study indicated the okra may block sugar absorption in the intestines, and observed that it may also obstruct the effectiveness of the diabetes drug metformin, thereby discouraging its simultaneous use.
The Journal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences published another study pointing to a possible link between okra and decreased blood sugar levels.
Diabetics may benefit if they take okra on a regular basis!
