Improve immunity with Vitamin D
For most people it is only Vitamin C to improve immunity. Well, perfectly true. But Vitamin D which is known for only bones, muscles and teeth also improves immunity.
Studies have shown that up to 50% of adults and children worldwide are vitamin D deficient. A reasonably exposed bare skin to sun for 10 minutes 2-3 times per week produces sufficient vitamin D. It is equally important to know that vitamin D has a half-life of about two weeks thereby exposing to sun is not a one-time activity. And what does one do in extreme winters and rains to ensure vitamin D levels are continuously maintained?
Discuss your vitamin D requirements with your doctor. Ideally, after checking your blood vitamin D levels and enquiring about your diet and sun exposure history will be able to suggest diet modifications, sun exposure and if vitamin D supplements are necessary or not. Follow your doctors’ instructions carefully.
In addition to improving immunity and maintaining health of bones, muscles and teeth, vitamin D also regulates insulin levels thus helping in diabetes management. Vitamin D also influences the expression of gene involved in cancer development.
For all you know, your recurrent coughs and colds may reduce in frequency and severity if your vitamin C and D are sufficient.
