Improperly done yoga is causing pain
Untrained and self-styled yoga teachers are causing more harm than good. In addition to wrong techniques being imparted which do not provide the gains one should get, the improper techniques lead to injuries.
Doctors say most yoga-related injuries are musculoskeletal, bone and joint issues.
‘Abnormal stretches can at times be fatal or lead to paralysis,’ said geriatric physician Dr V S Natarajan, further adding that people who have knee and back injuries, cervical and lumbar spondylitis and elderly people should be careful while choosing a trainer.
It may be rather beneficial to learn the techniques of yoga by watching reputed yoga teachers in YouTube and practicing. Watching yoga techniques with a partner may help refine the techniques rather than going to a non-certified yoga teacher.
Do not be misled by the rush of people going to a particular yoga teacher – instead verify the training.
