Frizzy hair and its management
Frizzy hair are of two types:
Natural frizz: Wavy and curly hair have a natural frizz because their hair follicles bend and twist in different directions when left to air dry.
Frizz due to damaged hair: The hair straightener may save you from a frizzy hair, but it may be the cause of frizzy hair later on. The more styling you do, the more damaged your hair will be as split ends and broken hairs tend to spring outward, resulting in frizz.
Effect of humid weather on hair:
Humid weather is known to affect both straight and curly hair. The curly hair falls flat while straight hair frizzes out. This is because the inside of the hair, called the cortex, is made out of two kinds of protein called the orthocortex and the paracortex. Both proteins are normally pulled tightly together. When the atmosphere is humid, the two proteins absorb water differently so one may absorb a lot of moisture while another hair shaft may not. The shafts will bend and twist to different sides, creating a frizzy texture.
What Can You Do About Frizz?
Salon Treatments: Keratin treatment is an anti-frizz treatment that can last all summer. The smoothing treatment coats the hair in keratin proteins, replacing broken protein bonds that cause the frizz.
Use The Right Brush: Brushing your hair should be part of your daily hair care routine. Brush from root to end as it helps bring your natural oils to the ends that never get the oils. And make sure you brush before bed. Brushing at night will redistribute for morning. Use a boar bristle brush as its natural bristles spreads the natural oils. The natural oils are your best humidity fighters.
Styling With Heat: Contrary to popular belief, using heat styling tools actually helps to prevent frizz, as long as you don’t over style and strip strands of all moisture. Blow drying and heat are great for making a set and holding a style. One should just remember to constantly move the heat to prevent damage. Letting it cool will lock the style.
What Products Should You Be Using:
Natural oil extracts and plant extracts are useful as they rest on the outside. This creates protection on the outside of the cuticle to seal and hydrate.
Vitamin A & E should be ingredients in your shampoos and conditioners as both of which help to keep hair hydrated and promote a healthy scalp.
