Exercise, Dopamine & Weight
Dopamine is one of the ‘good hormones’ released during exercise, the others being Endorphin and Serotonin.
Dopamine is also called as a pleasure chemical and food consumption is a pleasurable sensation.
Studies have found that people with dopamine receptor deficiency in the brain are more prone to weight gain, because eating quickly raises the dopamine levels. Those having fewer receptors need more dopamine in the bloodstream, which means intake of more food, to reach the same level of satisfaction as someone with a normal amount of dopamine receptors.
This is a reason enough to exercise regularly to keep dopamine levels up in order to keep overeating and weight gain at bay.
Simply stated, it means that exercise increases the dopamine levels; high dopamine levels means lower need to indulge in foods making exercises an effective strategy in weight management.
