Drug to cure baldness
Alopecia areata (AA), a form of baldness may have a cure soon. Researchers at Columbia University Medical Centre (CUMC) have been able to identify immune cells responsible for destroying hair follicles in people with alopecia areata, a common autoimmune disease that causes hair loss. A drug they discovered restored hair within 5 months.
Alopecia areata is a common autoimmune disease that causes hair loss; it can occur at any age and affects both men and women. Hair loss in AA occurs when cells from immune system surround and attack the base of the hair follicle thus causing hair loss.
It is hoped that this FDA-approved drug (Ruxolitinib) will be able to provide relief to people having hair loss due to alopecia aerata.
