Contact lens to treat glaucoma
Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology are very close to developing a contact lens that will release for prolonged delivery the commonly used drug Latanoprost used for glaucoma treatment.
Eye drops used for treating glaucoma are an inefficient method and have poor patient adherence resulting in improper dosing.
Dr. Joseph Ciolino, lead author of the paper said that ‘this contact lens can potentially be used for other ocular drug delivery applications’.
The lens are made of materials approved by FDA for use on eyes.
