Carbs – to have or not to
Carbohydrates or carbs in short, in limited amounts have benefits especially for weight loss, diabetes and certain health conditions.
One has to be watchful about junk foods as most junk foods tend to have carbs (mostly refined) in them.
It is only the refined carbs that are harmful. Unrefined or whole food sources of carbs in appropriate amounts are very healthy, especially if eaten with appropriate amounts of proteins and fats.
In fact, many of the world’s healthiest foods have plenty of carbs in them, example, the legumes. Chickpeas, beans, peas, lentils, peanuts are all legumes – they also contain proteins and fiber.
Almost all dietary fiber is made of carbs; and we just don’t have the enzymes to digest them. And eating fibers is good for health, be it for heart health or for weight management.
