Cancer recovery: yoga, diet helps
Researchers at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis say that in young patients, yoga may help boost cancer therapy.
Yoga combined with nutrition education helps young children having cancer to manage their disease today and lay the foundation for a healthy future.
Jessica Sparrow of St. Jude Rehab Services said, ‘we are focussing on all of the benefits of yoga, which include balance, cordination, a decrease in pain and improving quality of life’.
After each yoga session, patients are given a lesson on healthy eating, which often includes a demo from a chef. Says a researcher, ‘we focus on foods that bring patients out of their comfort zone but are also tasty and healthy. The younger kids are are more open-minded about trying new foods’.
