Nutrigenomics or nutritional genomics

Nutrigenomics is a science of how food influences an individual’s body at a molecular level. It is study of effect of food or food constituent on gene expression. Nutrigenomics aims to develop a rational means to optimise nutrition with respect to the subject’s genotype.

Such genetic profiling can help customize a diet to a person’s biological makeup. In May 2013, Qua Nutrition Clinic launched a service to offer nutrigenomic service. It does the DNA test and dietary counseling.

The parents of a 10 year old boy, Yash Aradhya, from Bangalore got him tested to better understanding of his body saying that they ‘consider it as a kind of health insurance’ and that ‘it is not about hedging against future illness but also building up the body’.

The day is not far when a child will choose a healthy food option over junk food.
