What are saturated fats
Saturated fats are edible oils that are solid at room temperature. Some examples:
- fatty beef
- lamb
- pork
- poultry with skin
- beef fat
- lard and cream
- butter
- cheese
- other dairy products made from whole or reduced-fat (2 percent) milk
- palm oil, coconut oil – both of which, however do not contain cholesterol
To get the nutrients you need as an alternative to saturated fats, eat foods that contain
- fruits and vegetables
- whole grains (with skin)
- low-fat dairy products
- poultry, fish and nuts
- red meat, sugary foods and beverages should be limited
Have lean meats and poultry without skin prepared without added saturated and trans fat.
It is advised to replace foods high in saturated fats with foods high in monounsaturated and/or polyunsaturated fats like foods made with liquid vegetable oil but not tropical oils. Eating fish and nuts is beneficial. And try to replace some of the meat that you eat with beans or legumes.
