Migraine, Bachache, Depression affecting Indians YLD
MBD (or Migraine, Backache & Depression) are the top three diseases affecting the Indians, especially the urban Indians YLD status.
YLD is Years Lived with Disability – it quantifies the impact of health problems that impair mobility, hearing, or vision, or cause pain in some way. Disabilities range from conditions such as Influenza, which may last for only a few days to epilepsy, that may last a lifetime.
The latest study says that an Indian is more likely to spend home due to MBD (migraine, backache or depression) than due to diarrhea, malaria or typhoid as used to happen in the past.
The study was published in the Lancet, a British medical journal.
The disease patterns are changing in India, keeping in tune with the newfound economic status.
Most of the diseases are linked to our lifestyle. There is too much to be done in too short a time and that leads to a host of diseases – either as a direct consequence or otherwise.
Indians are used to the curry but hurry and worry seem to be taking a toll.
Being realistic and not over-ambitious, doing regular exercises (including yoga), confiding in friends, eating a balanced diet, learning to manage time and sleeping for 7 to 8 hours will help.
