1 out of 3 adult obese is an Indian
The myth that only richer nations were facing the obesity problem has broken. According to ODI (Overseas Development Institute), one in three adult obese in the world is an Indian. And India is not a rich nation by any standards.
The study found that the percentage of obese to overweight rose in India from about 9 % of the population in 1980 to 11 % in 2008.
‘India’s consumption of animal products is approaching that of China in terms of its contribution to the average plate, but here the increase is almost entirely in milk consumption, with only limited increases for meat’, the study further added.
It is high time that India takes note of this and encourage wise eating habits alongwith sufficient physical activity.
