Parents eat junk foods once children leave home

The older parents have no incentive to eat healthy foods once their children leave home.

Home-alone parents eat ready meals and snacks instead of healthy diet, once their children move out.

A study found that more than 60% have just toast and crisps or a cup of tea of coffee instead of a full meal.

It was astonishing that the study of 2,000 over 60s found empty nesters skip two breakfasts, two lunches and an evening meal a week.

‘It’s important for the over 60s to ensure they are eating three balanced and varied meals a day to keep them fit and healthy and living well into old age,’ said Helen Bond, consultant dietician, Seven Seas.

For years we worry about the meals we serve our children to set a good example for them. But when the children leave home, many struggle to keep their healthy diets going, the research concluded.
